Water Rail Way. Opened in 1848. Closed between 1963 and 1970. Lincoln to Boston. Lincoln, Washingborough, Five Mile House, Bardney, Southrey, Stixwould, Woodhall Junction, Tattershall, Dogdyke, Langrick and Boston. Opened in 1848 for the first 4 years of its life. The Boston to Lincoln Line played an important part in what was eventually to become the East Coast Route. This all ended in 1852 with the completion of the more direct route between Peterborough and Doncaster after which the line was relegated to secondary status for the rest of its life. Following closure between 1963 and 1981. The route between Lincoln and Woodhall Junction and the section from Langrick to Boston has reopened as a footpath and cycleway known as the Water Rail Way.
