Borovnica - Slovenia 🇸🇮 - 10.26.22 The viaduct visible in the photo is one of only three viaducts built by Karl Ritter Von Ghega in Slovenia. The Deer Valley viaduct (Dolinski Most) was built at the same time as the smaller Dol viaduct in the north, which can be seen driving south on the E61 expressway towards Trieste, and the much larger viaduct in Borovnica in the southeast. The line that crosses the bridge was opened in 1856. It is a stone and brick structure with oak piles driven into the ground, to support the bridge, so-called "supporting columns" were placed aswell. The property was listed as a cultural heritage site due to its age and as an example of construction carried out during the Austrian monarchy. If you've seen my Insta story, you already know that the viaduct in Borovnica, which was the largest stone viaduct in Europe, was destroyed during WWII. This viaduct is one of the last relics of Ghega's work in Slovenia 🇸🇮 Not everyone on this app does have an Instagram so for History 's Sake there will be another post about the Borovnica Viaduct. #trainspotting #lineside #photo #train #electric #slovenskezeleznice #slovenia
