The Lochwinnoch Loop. It opened in 1905. It closed in 1966. Cart Junction to Brownhill Junction via Lochwinnoch. Cart Junction, Johnstone North, Kilbarchan, Lochwinnoch, Kilbirnie and Brownhill Junction. Opened by the Glasgow & South Western Railway in 1905 to provide an alternative route for rail traffic on the congested Glasgow to Ayr Main Line. The Lochwinnoch Loop had a short working life. Once popular with Glaswegian day trippers visiting Castle Semple Loch. It closed to passengers in 1966 and completely in 1977. Since closure much of this route has been reopened as a footpath and cycleway.
