A Class 47. No. 47489 Co Co 2580 hp initially 2750 hp. Developed by Brush. 512 Class 47 locomotives were built between 1962 and 1968 as part of the steam replacement programme. A familiar sight all over the country. A measure of the designs success is that 81 still exist as of October 2016 with 30 still operational. A further 30 have been rebuilt into Class 57 and also remain operational. No 47489 entered traffic in February 1964 and is seen powering a northbound express through Barnt Green towards Birmingham in the Summer of 1990. It was withdrawn and scrapped in October 2007 after 43 years of service.
