The 'Puffing Devil'. A recreation of Richard Trevithick's World first steam-powered road vehicle at Cambourne Festival, Cornwall, probably 2020. (The original blew-up whilst RT and crew retired for brandies in local inn.)Trevithick is rightly hailed as builder of the World's first commercial steam locomotive. Penydarren, South Wales, UK, 1804. Far in advance of the too brittle cast-iron rails. Jame Watt had serious issues with Trevithick's pursuit of high-pressure steam, Boulton & Watt were ferociously protective of their patents up until 1800. Some argue that this actually hindered independent steam/beam engine innovations - one-nil to RT. Many thanks for your numerous likes of postings.
