A Class 309. No. 309613. The Class 309 Clacton Express units were built in 1962-63. They were the first 25 KV express units and the first units capable of 100 MPH. Progressively replaced by the very inferior Class 321/3 units in 1989. They continued until 1992 being downgraded to rush hour only services until January 1994 when they were finally withdrawn. 7 units were sent to work around the Manchester area from 1994-2002. These final units were withdrawn and scrapped in 2004. No. 309613 sports Jaffa Cake livery as it passes through Harold Wood in Essex on a Down Working in November 1986.
