The Swansea Bikepath Network. It opened between 1806 and 1898. It closed between 1959 and 1964. Swansea to Mumbles Head and Gowerton. Swansea to Mumbles Head. Swansea Victoria, Swansea Bay, Mumbles Road and Mumbles Pier. Swansea to Gowerton. Swansea Victoria, Swansea Bay, Mumbles Road, Killay, Dunvant and Gowerton South. Opened along the shoreline of Swansea Bay in 1806. The Oystermouth Railway was the first railway in the world to carry fare paying passengers. It was later electrified. But was closed by its new bus operator owner in 1959. Running alongside it for part of the way was the railway line to Pontarddulais which opened in 1867 and formed part of the London & North Western Railways route through Central Wales to Shrewsbury. This closed in 1964 and today both the tramway and railway routes are a footpath and cycleway.
