Parkland Walk. Finsbury Park to Alexandra Palace. Opened between 1867 and 1873. Closed in 1954. Finsbury Park, Stroud Green, Crouch End, Highgate, Cranley Gardens, Muswell Hill and Alexandra Palace. Originally built to serve villages north of London and the Victorian pile of Alexandra Palace. This steeply graded line eventually lost much of its patronage in 1940 to the extended Northern Line Tube Service. The remaining Finsbury Park to Alexandra Palace route was starved of electrification remaining steam hauled until closure in 1954 apart from the section through the tunnels on either side of Highgate Overground Station most of the route has been reopened as a footpath and linear nature reserve known as the Parkland Walk.
