Here's a story about this Steam Locomotive. This Steam Loco is WC Class 4-6-2 No. 34104 Bere Alston. Seen at Bournemouth in 1966 is a scruffy version of a once proud rebuilt and Bulleid designed West Country Class/Battle of Britain 4-6-2 in the form of Bere Alston minus its nameplates. It is surrounded by the detritus of an MPD. A common sight at the time. The locomotive was built at Eastleigh Works going into service in April 1950 as an air cooled Spam Can. Then it was the last of the class to be rebuilt in May 1961. The last shed was Eastleigh from where it was withdrawn in June 1967 and cut up at Cashmores of Newport.
