Pittsburgh amateur rail and history
Wheeling and Lake Erie passing through Castle Shannon PA just outside of Pittsburgh, this crossing is one of the few left without crossing lights as the only thing beyond the Crossbuck sign is a few local homes on a dead end street. Wheeling and Lake Erie (WE) is a Class 2 railroad, this line formerly owned by Norfolk and Western, a Class 1 railroad, was purchased by WE in 1990 when the Class 2 railroad first began operation. Wheeling and Lake Erie (WE) gets its name from Wheeling and Lake Erie (WLE) which was a Class 1 railroad that operated from 1916-1988 before merging with Norfolk and Western. Today WE operates 840 miles of track between Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland. #trainspotting #video #train #diesel #crossing
