The Isle of Man Steam Heritage Trail. It opened in 1873. It closed between 1965 and 1968. Douglas to Peel. Douglas, Union Mills, Crosby, St John's and Peel. Opened in 1873. The 11 and a half mile narrow gauge railway between Douglas and Peel was the first of what eventually became a 46 mile network of steam railways serving the Isle of Man. After falling on hard times in the 1960s. It was briefly rescued by the marquess of Ailsa before finally closing in 1968. Since then much of the route has been reopened as a footpath known as The Steam Heritage Trail.
