Here's a story about a busy scene at Dallam MPD in Warrington in 1961. A look at a typical steam shed in the early 1960s. This time Dallam MPD in Warrington. The 2 engines on view are Fowler Patriots No. 45549 unnamed and No 45503 The Royal Leicestershire Regiment both are Fowler rebuilds of LNWR Claughton Engines. No. 45549 in 1934 and No. 45503 in 1932 and both were built and scrapped by Crewe Works. No. 45549 was withdrawn from Dallam in 1961 and No. 45503 from Carlisle Upperby in 1962. The Royal Scot nearest the camera is 46102 Black Watch a Fowler design with a Stanier Upgrade. It was built at the North British Locomotive Works in Glasgow in 1927 and withdrawn from Corkerhill In December 1962. Then cut up at J Mc Williams of Shettleston. Black Watch was one of those locomotives that proved difficult to see. In some train spotting locations. The words I have copped the Black Watch appeared scratched on suitable wooden fences. The reason can only be guessed at.
