The Whitehaven, Cleator & Egremont Railway. It opened between 1856 ans 1881. It closed between 1931 and 1935. Whitehaven to Rowrah. Whitehaven, Corkickle, Moor Row, Cleator Moor, Yeathouse and Rowrah. Transporting iron ore and coal from local mines. The highly profitable Whitehaven, Cleator & Egremont Railway was eventually taken over as a joint concern by its 2 bigger neighbours. The London & North Western Railway and the Furness Railway. Mine closures in the 1930s led to the cessation of passenger services. But sections remained open to serve quarries, mines and iron and steelworks until the late 1970s. In recent years. The trackbed between Whitehaven and Rowrah has been reopened by Sustrans as a footpath and cycleway.
