Here's a story about this Steam Locomotive. This Steam Loco is an unnamed Black 5. No number here. But the glorious array of semaphore signals combined with the pure steam era ambiance makes this photo well deserving of a place. The engine and its mixed goods departs Derby station in 1962 leaving behind well dressed trainspotters busily marking off the number of the Black 5 in their Ian Allan books. The man nearest the camera is in possession of a very common bag of the period. A Second World War gas mask case. The engine hauls its train past one of the 2 engine sidings signal boxes at this busy station. Both have now gone. But what a great photograph.
