The 'Kings' were an enlargement of the 'Castles' & 'Stars' and the most powerful 4-6-0's ever built in Britain; they were the only 4-6-0's to be placed in BR's top power class for express passenger engines - '8P'. No.6000 'King George V' attained the highest ever drawbar horsepower attained by a 'King' - 1,951 edhp. No.6001 'King Edward VII' attained the highest ever speed recorded by a 'King' - 109mph.
