A Stanier Black 5 4-6-0 No. 44729 emerges from the eastern end of the Summit Tunnel with a Liverpool Exchange to Leeds/Bradford express on 14th June 1961. The site of a serious fire in 1984. The tunnel at 1 and a half miles long and took 3 years to build.
