Bedford to Sandy Country Way. Opened between 1857 and 1862. Closed in 1968. Cambridge to Bedford. Cambridge, Lords Bridge, Old North Road, Gamlingay, Potton, Sandy, Blunham, Willington and Bedford St John's. The Cambridge to Bedford Railway once formed the eastern part of the long cross country Varsity Line between Cambridge and Oxford. Much of the railway closed at the beginning of 1968 although 2 short unconnected sections. Oxford to Bicester and Bedford St John's to Bletchley currently see a passenger service. Since closure much of the 8 and a half mile section between Sandy and Bedford has been reopened as the Bedford to Sandy Country Way.
