The Ystwyth Trail. It opened in 1867. It closed in 1964. Aberystwyth to Pencader. Aberystwyth, LIanrhystyd Road, LIanilar, Trawscoed, Strata Florida, Alltddu Halt, Tregaron, Pont LIanio, LIangybi, Derry Ormond, Lampeter, LIanybydder, Maesycrugiau, Bryn Teify and Pencader. The Manchester & Milford Railway was a grandiose scheme to link the North of England with Pembrokeshire by rail. In this respect. It was an utter failure with the meandering single track route that was eventually built serving only scattered farming communities, villages and a couple of small towns in West Wales. It became a victim of Dr Beechings Axe in 1964 and 1965 and closed completely in 1973. in recent years much of the trackbed between Aberystwyth and Tregaron has been reopened as the Ystwyth Trail.
