The Forest of Dean. It opened between 1810 and 1900. It closed in 1929. Lydney to Coleford and Cinderford. Lydney to Coleford. Lydney Junction, Lydney Town, Whitecroft, Parkend, Milkwall and Coleford. Lydney to Cinderford. Lydney Junction, Lydney Town, Whitecroft, Parkend, Speech House Road, Drybrook Road and Cinderford. The Severn & Wye Railway had a long career transporting minerals from The Forest of Dean. Starting life in 1810 as a horse drawn tramway and canal. It progressed to broad gauge before becoming a steam operated standard gauge railway. It was saved from bankruptcy by the Midland and Great Western Railways in 1885 after joining forces with the Severn Bridge Railway. Passenger traffic ceased in 1929. But mineral traffic continued until 1976. Since closure. Much of the route has reopened as a circular footpath and cycleway.
