Here's a story about this Steam Locomotive. This Steam Loco is a V2 Class 2-6-2 No. 60844. A dark and gloomy day in Edinburgh St Margaret's MPD in 1965. A Gresley V2 engine stands over the pits in steam and ready to go. The engine was built at Darlington Works in 1939 and allocated to this depot. It was withdrawn from Dundee Tay Bridge in November 1965 and scrapped at Motherwell Machinery and scrap the following month. Apart from one experimental locomotive in 1903. The Class V2 was the only primary class of 2-6-2 tender locomotives in Britain. The class was based on the A1 A3 Pacific's. But with smaller wheels and were built in 14 batches between 1936 and 1944 at Doncaster and Darlington Works. During the War. The class was ideal for fast fitted freights and express passenger duties and accordingly building continued throughout hostilities. However at 22 tons. Their axle weight meant that they were restricted to only 40% of the LNER route miles.
