Train Siding
In the early 1960s twenty of these locomotives were built and supplied by NOHAB (Nydqvist & Holm AB) of Trollhättan, Sweden. This one still gets used for running excursions and is seen here at the Hungarian railway museum workshop in Budapest Hungary. In Hungary, steam traction approached its decline by the end of the 1950's, and like many railroads throughout the world, MÁV set up plans for purchasing diesel and electric motive power. At that time, only a few lines were electrified and therefore the demand for a mainline diesel locomotive was of especially high importance. These locomotives were much loved by their drivers for being reliable and good to drive and lasted for around 20 years on mainline service before being edged out due to electrification.
