The Jersey Railway. Opened in 1870. Closed in 1936. St Helier to La Corbiere. St Helier, West Park, First Tower, Millbrook, Bel Royal, Beaumont, La Haule, St Aubin, Pont Marquet, Don Bridge, Tabor, La Moye and La Corbiere. The Jersey Railway had an eventful life. First being opened in 1870 as a standard gauge line then being converted to 3 ft 6 in gauge and merging with an unfinished industrial line of the same gauge in 1884. After a succession of owners and bankruptcy. The railway went on to achieve some success by operating an intensive service for tourists in the early 1920s. Serving no less than 17 stations along its 7 and 3 quarter mile route. It finally succumbed to competition from motor buses and cars and closed in 1936. It was resurrected as a metre gauge line during the German Occupation of the Second World War to transport sand and stone used in the building of fortifications. But was dismantled in 1945. Today. The entire length of the railway can be followed on foot or cycle along the Southern Seafront and Coastline from St Helier to La Corbiere.
