Over the Bridges. Edinburgh to Aberdeen. 122 Miles. Edinburgh Waverley, Kirkcaldy, Ladybank, Leuchars Junction, Dundee, Arbroath, Montrose, Stonehaven and Aberdeen. For 42 years rail travellers between Edinburgh and Dundee endured the misery of ferry journeys across the Firth of Forth and Firth of Tay. This important railway route came into its own only following the opening of the Second Tay Bridge in 1887 and the Forth Bridge in 1890.
