The Tayport to Taybridge Cycle Route. It opened between 1849 and 1879. It closed between 1956 and 1969. Leuchars Junction to Wormit via Tayport. Leuchars Junction, Leuchars Old, Tayport, Newport On Tay East, Newport On Tay West and Wormit. This is the story of 2 railways that met on the southern shore of the Firth of Tay at Tayport. The future of both railways was inextricably linked to the opening of the Tay Bridge in 1878. But while the railway from Leuchars Junction became a sleepy byway with an infrequent service of trains. The other from Wormit became a lifetime for commuters working in Dundee. The opening of the Tay Road Bridge in 1966 brought an end to this traffic and the line was progressively closed over the next 3 years. Since closure. The Tayport to Wormit route has become a footpath and cycleway.
